Casinos in Mozambique

The relative lack in the numbers of, Mozambique’s casinos is in a sense considerably baffling, in one way or another.

In past years, the country was a region where lots of South Africans would drop by to be away from the considerably prohibitory policies on casino gambling (and, it has to be said, mixing with other races) that they had at home. Thus, you are likely to bank on something of an expanding spot to satisfy that tourist industry.

Still, maybe it isn’t particularly an amazement. The area is certainly the most destitute on the globe, having gone through a frightening civil war (followed by destructive floods) from which it is still, very slowly, recovering. This can make a region way less of a vacation destination, even though there is at the moment a favorable ambiance along various of the territory’s beautiful beaches.

It is in addition accurate that regionally at the very least, casinos in Mozambique have had to encounter with others in the lately liberalized South Africa, inclusive of the notable Sun City founded by the Kerzner family organization.

Here’s a list of Mozambique’s casinos:

Maputo: Polana Casino Hotel

There are 78 slot machines and video poker games, five tables of American roulette, four blackjack tables, and a poker table.

Namaacha: Sol Libombos Hotel Casino

There are forty slot machines, American roulette, as well as two tables for poker and punto banco.

It is thought that over time the whole tourism sector in Mozambique will grow dramatically. While the local languages are, apparently, African, there is in addition the portion of Portuguese from the old colonial power and the fresh and expanding introduction of English, both from South Africa and as part of the worldwide phenomenon. The country is quite cheap (naturally, as it is really poor) and as above, has some of the most attractive beaches worldwide, fronting onto the Indian Ocean. Those are the kinds of assets that make tourism agents drool, and as the country ascends out of its existent slump, it’s likely that not only will tourism develop, but that the list of Mozambique’s casinos will grow longer as well.

While the country is unlikely to ever regain its character as a location for partying South Africans, as there are now other alternatives closer to home for them to oblige in, the expansion of a long distance tourism sector is being set-up. This would be to serve Europeans bargaining on winter sun, as an escape from the dreariness of the Northern Hemisphere winter. And, evidently, the most elite prawns (shrimp) across the globe come from just offshore, in the Mozambique Channel.
